Synoyms

रक्त चन्दन-Rakt Chandan is considered as red variety of sandal wood.
रक्तसारम- Heartwood of Raktachandan is of red colour.
रक्तांग-The heart wood is red in colour.
प्रवाल फलम-Fruits of Raktchandan are resembling like that of Praval.
क्षुद्र चन्दनम- Properties are little inferior when compared to sweta Chandan.

Habit

It is tree reaching up to 15-60 feet height and possesses yellow flowers.

Habitat

यह चेन्नई, तमिलनाडु और कर्नाटक के क्षेत्र में 150-900 मीटर पूर्वी घाट और कुडप्पा, नेल्लोर, चित्तौड़ और आंद्रप्रदेश क्षेत्रीय के प्रकाशम जिले में पाया जाता है।

Morphology

  • Stem/Bark- Bark brown,1.15 cm thick and vertical horizontal cracks and dark purple heart wood.
  • Leaves- Leaves compound, leaflets 3-5 broads – elliptic.
  • Flowers- Bisexual yellow, in short simple or sparingly branched axillary or terminal racemes.
  • Fruits- Oblique pods gradually narrowed into a short stalk.
  • Seeds- Reddish brown smooth.
